How to Convert iPhone HEIC Photos to JPG on Windows — Without Uploading Them
Open the tool: HEIC to JPG — convert HEIC to JPG at full resolution
Since iOS 11, iPhones save photos as HEIC — a format that is efficient on the phone and unreadable almost everywhere else. Windows Explorer shows no thumbnails, most upload forms reject the files, and many “HEIC converter” sites quietly shrink your photos or ask you to upload your camera roll to their servers. Neither is necessary: a HEIC decoder can run entirely in your browser.
Step by step
- Copy the .heic photos from your iPhone to the PC (USB, iCloud download, or any transfer you already use).
- Open the HEIC to JPG tool (button above). The conversion engine (libheif, about 1.3 MB) loads once, on first use.
- Drop the HEIC files in — batches are fine.
- Set the JPG quality if you like (the default is a good balance).
- Click “Convert to JPG” and download full-resolution JPGs that open everywhere.
The free-tier trap to avoid
Check the dimensions of what a free converter gives you back. At least one major free HEIC converter silently reduces output resolution on its free tier and sells the full resolution back as Premium. A 4032×3024 photo should come back 4032×3024 — here it does, because the conversion is done by your own machine.
Why no-upload matters for photos specifically
HEIC files come straight from your camera roll — family photos, documents you photographed, screenshots with private content. Upload-converters ask you to send the most personal files you own to a server you know nothing about, on the promise of deletion. A browser-local converter (this one uses the libheif engine, vendored into the page) removes the question entirely.
